Vanha Suurtori Christmas Market will be held again on four Advent weekends, 26–27.11, 3–4.12, 10–11.12. and 17–18.122022. This year, the traditional open-air event, with no entrance fee, at Vanha Suurtori will once again feature a diverse range of crafts and food vendors, as well as a program suitable for the whole family on every market day.
Vanha Suurtori’s Christmas Market is thematically set in old times, which means that the event not only respects the traditions of the olden times but, is also within the distinctive atmosphere of the historical setting of Vanha Suurtori. At the Christmas Market sales points, traditionalism can be seen in the display of products, the decoration of the sales stalls, and the dressing of the sellers in accordance with the old-time theme. High-quality handicraft products are on sale, and the food vendors’ stalls offer both traditional and modern Christmas treats. The tradition of the Vanha Suurtori’s Christmas market is also emphasized by the event’s own longevity, as the Christmas Market has been held continuously at Vanha Suurtori since 1990.
The Christmas market play, performed in three separate acts on each market day, dives into the year 1911. The translations of Christmas carols, Christmas tree sales, and the planning of the Christmas party are awe-inspiring.
Every day you can also peek into Santa’s workshop and the elves entertain the market visitors. The versatile programme includes, among other things, circus performances, a dance group, and singing performances. More information about the event is available online at: www.suurtorinjoulumarkkinat.fi Changes to the programme are possible.
The programmatic event is organized by the non-profit association: Turun Suurtorin keskiaika ry.
